Women's 400 Meter Individual Medley

This race will be the first night of finals, and we could see all three medal winners under the current world record. Katie Hoff owns the current WR (4:31.12), but she had to take it back at the US trials after Stephanie Rice broke her old record at the Aussie trials (4:31.46). Youngster Elizabeth Beisel, only 15 years old, swam a 4:32.87 in the finals at Omaha and could join Hoff as the second American on the podium. Beisel's time at trials makes her the third fastest swimmer this year in trials, and the only other woman under 4:33.

Katie Hoff looks to repeat her perfomance in Melbourne and beat the World

In addition to the top three contenders we must keep an eye on Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe should she enter this event in Beijing. I don't know what her program is going to be, but she is the 5th fastest in this event this year should she enter it, but we are more likely to spot her in the 200 IM (and obviously she will focus on her 200 Back). Hanna Miley of Great Britain is the 4th fastest swimmer in this event, with a 4:33.24.
