Men's 100 Meter Freestyle

Alain Bernard of France currently holds the World Record at 47.50 set earlier this year at the European Championships. 22 year old Australian Eamon Sullivan has the WR in sight as he swam a 47.52 in trials.

Garrett Weber-Gale won this event along with the 50, claiming the title as America's fastest man in the pool in Omaha. Jason Lezak held the American Record which he set at the '04 trials coming into the meet. Garrett broke the AR in prelims, but Lezak took it back in the semis and still holds it as neither man bested 47.58 in the finals. Michael Phelps actually got the 5th fastest time in the world this year when he went 47.92 in the prelims at trials. That'll get him a spot on the 400 relay final, but he scratched before the semis. This will be Lezak's third Olympics, yet the 32 year old is still chasing an individual medal. Cullen Jones and Nathan Adrian earned their spots on the relay teams in the finals in Omaha.
