Women's 100 Meter Freestyle
Australian Libby Trickett is holds the World Record at 52.88, making her the only woman under 53 this year and the strong favorite for gold in Beijing. German Britta Steffen stole the WR from Libby back in 2006 while her name was still Libby Lenton. Britta's best time this year is 53.20, the second fastest woman. Fellow Cate Campbell, only 15 years old, will be in Beijing with a time of 53.30 (a mark she set after trials).
Libby Trickett Celebrates her 100m WR
Dara Torres won this event in Omaha, but she is scratching it from her program in Beijing. Natalie Coughlin took second in trials with 53.83 and Lacey Nymeyer steps up to fill Dara's void after swimming a 54.02 (the 11th fastest time this year). This is one of three individual events for Natalie, her trials time wasn't even her fastest this year as she put up a 53.39 in May (the 4th fastest time)

The other Europeans in addition to Britta Steffen to watch in this race are Marleen Veldhuis from the Netherlands who won the European Championships with a 53.77. Hanna-Maria Seppälä from Finland took second and Inge Dekker who is more of a threat in the butterfly took third.
